Can You Guess Your Way to the Jackpot?
Lottery Number Predictions
We are going to let you know some of the most common lottery numbers chosen for various different lotteries. But a Warning! Sometimes trying to predict lottery numbers can actually cause you to win LESS! Read on to find out why.
Can You Predict the Lottery?
Well, can we? Brazilian mathematician Renato Gianella says so. He conducted extensive research on 20 lotteries, and applied a range of complicated mathematical equations and statistical analysis to each individual draw to see if lottery predictions are possible.
From that he concluded that some combinations are more likely than others and compiled his findings in a colour coordinated chart. Mr Gianella said, "(the) lottery should no longer be seen as a form of a gambling, but a true representation of the probabilistic theory and the Law of Large Numbers."
Sadly, this is not a workable lottery predictor, as the analysis only works when applied over a long period of time. So, despite Renato's best efforts, we still don't have a sure-fire way of getting those lottery number predictions for this week, but at least we have a tangible way of improving our odds in the long term…
Significant Numbers
Some might call them “lucky numbers” but luck is relative. Some people simply apply meaning after a fact. However, there may be some wisdom in sticking with numbers that have significance in your life. A person with three children who lives at house number 33, whose car license plate has several 3s in it will, naturally, feel that it’s significant to them and play it. Alternatively, use significant dates: Similarly, birthdays, anniversaries, graduation dates, a memorable holiday can all be significant in a person’s life too.
Does it work? Essentially, numbers are given meaning by the person playing them – both positive and negative. There is nothing wrong with playing them as they add to the enjoyment. Lottoland’s one millionth customer plays birthdates and gets the sentimental pleasure from it. Caution, though, because birth numbers are all under 31 and are therefore more common.
Statistical Probability
If using significant numbers is pure emotion, then using statistical probability is pure logic. Players who use probability to win the lottery look at past draws to try to predict what will come out this time. On the face of it, it’s a good idea relying on an ordered universe and the law of averages, the idea that certain numbers are due because they have not come out for a while. Probability is sometimes called “Hot and Cold Numbers”, assigning a kind of universal likelihood and meaning to certain numbers as and when they come out. You will also find software packages aimed at calculating statistical probability.
Does it work? Probability relies on order in the universe which rarely comes true. The universe does not remember numbers and the law of averages is often misinterpreted in these situations. It relies on lottery draws effectively having a “memory”. We call this “Gambler’s Fallacy”.
Patterns and Systems
So long as there have been lotteries there have been people proposing systems of predicting numbers to be drawn. This can be in the form of patterns on the ticket – for example, choosing all the numbers form the last column on the ticket, creating a heart, a cross or an initial. Again, this is similar to attempting to find meaning in numbers. Or it can be in the form of lottery systems from the multitude of books available on the subject.
Does it work? Sadly, they are no more likely to be right than any other system. It’s noteworthy that they make money selling books and not playing the lottery. There has yet to be one demonstrably proven system producing effective results.
Mysticism and Spiritual Approaches
Rather than assigning meaning to numbers, here we mean using Tarot cards, psychic mediums, horoscopes and numerology, The Secret, and many more. Sometimes, people dream of numbers and then go and play them or they use numbers on a lottery ticket discovered in a deceased person’s belongings. These play on the power of the universe, harnessing some popular alternative spiritual methods.
Does it work? There are many stories of lottery winners having had a dream with their numbers. We assign meaning, but it’s important to remember that we don’t hear about people dreaming of numbers who then do not go on to win.
Is There a Sensible Approach?
So far, no system has proven to be a sure way of winning any lottery. But there are sensible ways of playing a lottery.
“Quickies”: It won’t guarantee you a win. After all, the likelihood of any sequence coming out in a draw is just as likely as any other. But because people use meaningful sequences, the likelihood that another person using those numbers is higher. It is reported that a high number of people use the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. There is no pattern, but these are the numbers from the TV show Lost. A completely random number draw from a Quickie is likely to have few other players. More details are below.
System betting: Lottery games ask you to pick a certain set of numbers – usually 5 or 6. But system betting allows you to choose more than 5, increasing your range and the chance of winning. Choose 7 numbers instead of 6 by using Lottoland’s Quicky +1 option. Of course, they come at extra cost, but with the extra chance of winning, it’s a wise choice.
Syndicates: For the cost of one line, you can get multiple entries. That’s because syndicates are groups of people who play as a team, essentially crowdsourcing players and splitting wins evenly. Lower cost, more lines, and greater chance of winning through pooling. Lottoland has many lottery betting syndicates.
More Information on Lottoland Quickies
While there is no right or wrong way of playing the lottery, you can be smart in making your choice. Which player sounds more like you:
- Person 1: when using Lottoland, they always choose their parent’s, children’s, and partner’s birthdays, maybe their date of graduation and one random number for luck
- Person 2: Chooses quick pick numbers, letting the machine or the website pick numbers for them, and adds in a couple more with a quick pick plus option
Neither player has the right method; neither is more likely than the other to win a prize. But if their numbers do come out, Person 2 is likely to claim a larger prize than Person 1. But why? Simply, people who choose numbers that are meaningful to them are everywhere. Random sequences, which will include numbers over 31, are less used by people who use meaningful numbers such as dates. Plus, the person adding numbers beyond the 6 required is giving themselves more chances to win and a wider numbering sequence. Lottoland Quickies is the fast, effective, and stress-free method of picking lottery numbers.
Every number and sequence have the same chances of appearing in any given draw. Even if the number 35 has appeared in every draw this year, it is no more or less likely to appear in subsequent draws. Lottery draws do not have a “memory”.
The Benefits of Lottoland Quickies
The main advantage is that it removes the human meaning that we assign to numbers. Some players choose sequences that are unlikely to ever come out. If they did, the jackpot prize would be staggeringly small. You’d be surprised at how many people choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 every week. The lack of bias, limited number set (under 31 because people choose birthdays), a mix of high and low and of odd and even make it a great choice for most Lottoland players.
The Drawbacks of Lottoland Quickies
Our players feel there is only one drawback to Quickies and that’s the belief that turning your number selection to a computer system removes the fun. There is enjoyment from choosing your own numbers and imparting your own meaning, they say.
To play Lottoland Quicky, simply click the magic wand symbol on each set of numbers. Alternatively, for Quicky Plus One, click the Quicky +1 icon on the betting slip (top right).
