Wheeling System
The wheeling system, also known as lottery wheeling, is a method adopted by both individuals and syndicates to distribute numbers across a selection of tickets. Essentially, it uses a small set of numbers (say, 9 for a lottery where you pick 5 numbers) which it then uses to create combinations in order to maximise the chance of winning. With such a system, if those numbers are drawn, at least one line (and usually more) will result in a win.

High and Low Number Strategy
In most cases, the winning numbers of any lottery is spread across the whole range of numbers. It is a rare occurrence that they all appear in the bottom or the top half. What we do find most often (around 80% of the time) is an even split or weighting 4-2. Most draws are evenly spread 3-3. Therefore, you have a better chance of winning a good prize if you weight 3-3 or 4-2. 5-1 and 6-0 splits rarely come out, around 7% and 1% of the time respectively.

Odd & Even Number Strategy
Similarly, advocates of this system say an equal odd-even distribution is a near-guaranteed system. Statistics show that a balance of 3-3 odd and even occurs 37% of the time. That’s far more than 4-2 in favour of odd (24%) or 4-2 in favour of even (22%). 5-1 odd occurs just 8% of the time while the reverse is 7%. All odds or all evens happen in just 1% of draws. For your best chance of winning, pick 3 odd and 3 even numbers.

Number Sequences and Patterns
Advocates of using short number sequences (31, 32, 33) point to this being common among most draws. The only random thing about randomness is how non-random it appears. Therefore, pick patterns. A good 6-number sequence might be in this instance: 13, 23, 31, 32, 33, 42. There are several 2s and 3s, creating a non-random pattern.

A Points System
A variation on the hot and cold strategy, this method takes it a step further. Take the last 20 draws from your chosen lottery. Working on the assumption of a 6-number draw, give 6 points to any number that came out first, 5 to any that came out second and so on. After you’ve totalled up the score for each number, you should have your set of 5, or 6 hot numbers.

Number Shield
One of our favourite lotto strategies is the Number Shield. This allows players to protect chosen numbers. If those protected numbers are drawn, it won't matter if anyone else also picked them. The advantage of this as far as winning lotto strategies are concerned is that you will not have to share your winnings; a jackpot win is yours and yours alone. Double Jackpot

For example, you choose 6 numbers for the Irish Lotto, 5 for the US Powerball and so on. The System (or ‘Combo’) bet allows you to choose additional numbers so that you can bet with different variations of all the numbers you select. By picking 7 numbers for the Irish Lotto instead of 6 you will bet on 7 different combinations of 6 of those numbers to increase your chance to win. If you picked 8 numbers, then 28 variations of 6 of these will be used. Of course, you are paying for every combination so choosing 7 numbers would mean 7 times your stake as well as multiplying your chances of winning by 7.
